A Little Oracle
A Little Oracle, 2004
Mixed media installation with 36 min audio piece

An audio installation that uses the metaphor of radio broadcast to map the colonial and psychological themes of a James Joyce short story onto the physical space of Troubles-era Northern Ireland.

The work includes my own adaptation of Joyce's story 'A Little Cloud', read by actor Mickey Kelly and recorded and mixed with sound effects and music in the style of a radio play. The audio plays from a x4 scale sculpture of an old transistor radio that fully functions as a radio, containing its own receiver, amplifier and speakers - the audio transmitting from an antenna just a few feet away.

'A Little Oracle' was first presented at The Goethe Institute in Dublin as part of the 'ReJoyce' Bloomsday centenary events in June 2004.
