Interview with Hugh Murray, 1996
Installation with 17 minute audio piece, portable radio
An audio piece based on an interview with architect Hugh Murray, focusing on the hi-tech visitors' centre to Limerick's 700 year-old Norman castle.
The interview was edited with music ('Surfing on Sine Waves' by Polygon Window, 1993) in the style of a radio documentary, and replayed through a portable radio inside the Visitor's Centre as part of the 1996 EVA International exhibition. Visitors to the exhibition would come across the radio on the counter of a 'trace your Irish roots' genealogy display, as if placed by someone working there; listening revealed that the sounds were addressing the Visitor's Centre itself, creating a playful and intimate encounter with the building's architecture.
